I LOVE Costa Rica! This was my 4th time there and it was just as beautiful and majestic this time except that we got to share it with our kids and that was amazing. Again, as I said in my Bahamian post, I have only gotten to edit a handful of images from the fun part but I did get our “portraits” edited. Y’allllllllll….
We hiked down a muddy hill in the dark to get back to this spot. The first time Jon & I went together we stayed at a house on the cliff above (in Manuel Antonio) this spot and it was simply gorgeous (HERE is a post on that trip). I hadn’t been able to find a spot other than that that I loved so we decided to trek over there from where we stayed this trip (see a drone shot of that one below). Jon and I did a few pictures there the year we went and almost got carried away by a few rogue waves from the tide coming up quickly and then, drenched & hiking up the hill…fireflies everywhere. It was so magical. One from that year (and yes I almost lost my camera for this shot!)…
I was so excited to take the kids to that spot. My amazing husband helped me and the kids and my equipment get down the hill, across what was almost a river at the bottom, and down to the beach. It was basically dark when we got down there but still just breathtaking. We took a few family pictures and then had some fun running around and taking it all in. Hiking back up, drenched because it was sprinkling, and stepping around cow patties (yes it is a farm like a lot of Costa Rica’s land is) in the dark. But as we were changing into dry clothes and piling in the car there they were…fireflies everywhere. We climbed out of the car and danced with them in the field in the sprinkles. Gah I was so excited to show the kids…who would have thought living in the South that the most fireflies I have ever seen in one place would be Costa Rica?
I would love to join you for a destination beach session; details HERE!
And a few from our adventures in Costa Rica…waterfalls, sloths, marlin fishing, parasailing, fishing, whale watching and exploring! I will be adding more and some links to the companies we used too!
And here is how this shot was achieved lol (that’s me in the bright orange life jacket 😉 I wanted to wait and get some shots of him swimming away but they hold him alongside the boat and slowly make sure he is not too tired from fighting to swim away so they didn’t want to leave me out in the middle of the ocean-imagine that!
We had just gotten out of the water snorkeling (the picture of Presley above was just taken) and were drying off on the boat when a humpback whale and her calf popped up not far from the boat…we were thrilled to say the least! The looks on the kids faces….I will cherish forever! I wanted to badly to get closer and jump in with them but I also wanted to be respectful of that sweet mama’s time with her calf.
