Imagine…toes in the sand, cold drink in your hand, leafing through your goodie bag and waiting for the fun to begin at the Friday Night Welcome Dinner. Accommodations & fabulous food are taken care of while you relax, learn, and meet a group of like-minded photographers who can share this experience and take knowledge home to ignite your portrait business, just in the time for the holiday portrait rush!
I am holding my inaugural small group portrait workshop to entail everything from finding the light indoors to outdoor portrait sessions & rounding it out with marketing and editing. I chose to do the smallest group possible that would also allow me to keep it affordable. I want you to learn a ton in an amount of time that is feasible for you to be away from your business & family so I created an action packed 1+ day workshop jammed with lots of real sessions so you can get your camera clicking, your mind lightbulbing, and your portfolio expanding. After all, I have 3 little ones my self and I know how hard it is to be away 😉
Date: September 28th from 8am-? (plus a Welcome Dinner Friday Night, the 27th, and Headshots on Saturday Morning, the 29th) see itinerary
Location: kansas studios | kansas pitts photography & design as well as other chosen locations (see itinerary), Santa Rosa Beach, Florida
Airport Codes: ECP (Southwest & Delta), VPS (Delta is primary) are closest but PNS may be less expensive
Accommodations are included for both Friday and Saturday night at a beach house retreat. Below are images of a home I am considering-I have to wait until I get the final number of attendees who will be staying at the beach house before I can confirm. I wanted to give you a true beach experience 😉 (Please see information at the bottom about room sharing, bedroom picking, etc.)*
If you are coming with your spouse or your family you can start looking for lodging options at http://www.visitsouthwalton.com/ (once you are booked I can assist in finding lodging-this is a just to give you an idea)-There is a Courtyard Marriott as well as a Residence Inn nearby as well as a plethora of resorts, condos, and home rentals plus it is after Labor Day so the rates should be better 😉
.PDF outlining tips & tricks of finding the light and shooting outdoors (what we cover in class), editing, and workflow, favorite vendors & more!
Welcome dinner Friday night at the beach house by a private chef.
A beach bag with lots of goodies from kansas studios & our workshop sponsors, including a fabulous “beach” frame from The Organic Bloom!, and the Washed Ashore camera strap from The Bloom Theory! – see sponsors below
What you need to bring:
Basic knowledge of Lightoom, Photoshop, and your own camera-we will be shooting in manual (which I will go over but please practice getting to know Manual if you don’t shoot that way currently) Bring your lenses! Once you are booked I will let you know what lenses I will be using. Bring what you have and I will also be providing attendees with a coupon code to assist in renting lenses from BorrowLenses.com (one of our fabulous sponsors) for those of you who would like to try something new while you are here. You may bring your laptop to take notes or edit along with me during the class/studio portion of the workshop.
What I hope to have you walk away with:
New friends, a renewed sense of creativity, knowledge on finding the right light at different times of the day, of shooting backlit images, of where to place your subjects, of shooting in open sun, also editing to make your images pop, working an efficient workflow, how styling can make an amazing image, and many fabulous images for your portfolio for the upcoming holiday portrait season. Honestly, sooo much more 😉 Also, on Saturday morning, those that would like a headshot (since it is sometimes hard to get one of ourselves) I will be doing headshot/bio images for you guys and sending you a digital copy to use.
There will be giveaways from our sponsors, including a certificate to make your very own Signature Album from Miller’s (another great sponsor) new album line!

Oh and don’t forget your bathing suit 😉 You must visit the beach while you are here-its the perfect time of year because the tourists are gone and the weather is fantastic! I will be opening a Facebook Private Group for attendees so you can ask questions on the area or share cars and things. If you aren’t staying at the beach house, this would be a great long weekend for a family vacation or couples getaway-the hubby can golf on our award-winning golf courses, go deep sea fishing, learn to dive, or even just relax on the beach with a cold beverage. But we all know that mommy may need a weekend alone so its perfect for that as well. And how many of us have on-line photography friends we’d love to meet in person? This is the perfect time to team up and come down to the beach!

*Due to the fact that there are not any homes that have 12 bedrooms (that I can find) there is a possibility that you will have to share a bedroom with someone. If you come or meet another photographer here you will sharing a room if need be. This all depends solely on how many photographers register to say at the beach house. Bedroom picking will be done upon arrival and you will pick your accommodations in the order in which you registered. In other words, the first to register are the first to pick their rooms upon arrival on Friday 😉
Due to the possibility of booking up-if you don’t get a response from me within an hour please email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org just in case!
