Honestly mentoring never crossed my mind when I got into photography-not until recently. I have had many of you inquire via facebook and email about mentoring/workshops so I have decided to delve in. First let me say that I am extremely honored that I have those who want to learn from me-it truly humbles me in the depths of my soul. I only hope that I can serve you and help your photography go to the next level![]()

Is mentorship for you? It depends. For me I learn the best and quickest if someone manually (hands-on) shows me something and explains the relationship between the elements (such as aperture, shutter speed, white balance, etc.) and why they do something a certain way. If I can grasp a good understanding of the ins and outs I can then start to gain knowledge that is applicable to other situations. For instance, if you were to take the portrait mentorship and learn all about my settings, my editing style, and why I shoot where and when I do that is also applicable to weddings and vice versa. When I first began there weren’t many mentoships or workshops, especially for weddings. However when I recently (in the last year) decided I really wanted to focus on newborns one workshop took me from a very pitiful newborn photographer to what I have become and all in a very short time. Had I been able to do something like that with weddings or portraits – wow! That would have saved me a lot of time and allowed me to grow my business a little quicker and focus on portfolio building more than learning the basics all on my own. So I can say, without hesitation, that workshops worked for me. Here is my before and after (workshop):

After:

The “after” is not an image I did at the workshop, it was one I did all on my own a few months after returning from the workshop and the “before” image was taken a few months before I went. Dramatic difference.
Another key element I will discuss is editing. Editing assistance can also change your world. For instance, this is a before and after. I took an image I would have normally thrown away and turned it into something spectacular just to try it. This turned out to be my favorite from the session. I hadn’t gotten my settings yet and was just snapping to get an idea of composition but this terribly exposed image turned out to be my gem-more so than the rest, which were exposed properly.

Here is another before and after edit:

So if you think these things can help your business and you are open to learning I would say you are definitely ready for a mentorship and it could change your {photography} world!
As for now I will not be doing multi-person workshops but have decided to do 1:1 mentoring. I feel you will get the most out that and I will be able to get to know you and give you what you need. All that being said I will be offering both portrait and wedding mentorships. In order to qualify for this you must not be within 200 miles of Destin, Florida (zip code 32459, more specifically). If you are close I will evaluate it on an individual basis.
I will provide more information on the individual pages but I am extremely excited about this especially since my wedding mentorships aren’t just staged shoots-you will be shooting as much of a wedding as you want alongside me
For more information please email me (kansasleah@yahoo.com) your name, website, and location and I will provide you with the password for details on the mentorship you are interested in if you qualify. If you are close in proximity to the 200 mile cut off I will evaluate you on a case by case basis![]()
It is here!
I live in Port St Joe, Florida. I am just “starting” out in the photography “business”. I love taking pictures. I always have. My son has had a camera in his face since he was born and he just turned 7
! However I am very interested in learning from someone more experienced that will give me feedback and teach me things. I am “self taught”. I only had a small little point and shoot camera and purchased Adobe Elements 9 this past year. I took some pictures of my son and some of my family randomly over the summer and started having people ask me about doing theirs. I was able to acquire a Cannon Rebel XTI camera from a family member when she purchased a new Nikon, and have since started using it. I try and keep it on me all the time, but I always have the smaller Sony Cybershot in my purse.
I just have a passion that I want to hone. I seen where your requirements were not within 200 miles of Destin but that you did look at those within on an individual basis, so I thought I’d give it a shot. Thanks so much for considering me!

Hi, I really love your work. I do mostly kids photography and I was wondering if you’re going someday to Mexico for a workshop or something. I really admire your work and skills and even though i’m young in photography I want to focus on the work you do because in my country there are not too much babies or kids photographers..
Thank you very much!
